In Memoriam: Dr. Pascal Louis 'Pat' Trohanis
Pascal "Pat" Trohanis was the director of NECTAC, and its predecessor national TA projects funded by OSEP, for 35 years. He died June 23, 2007. The staff of his succeeding projects continue to remember and pay tribute to Pat in a number of ways:

Trohanis TA Projects celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, and 45 years of national TA centers led and inspired by Pat Trohanis.

NECTAC awarded the first annual OPA! Awards for Excellence in Technical Assistance.
"OPA!" is a Greek expression of great joy. We can still hear Pat exclaiming OPA! and leading Greek dancing. Recipients were nominated by their peers in two categories: contributions to the field and contributions to the organization. Donna Trohanis served and one of the judges and she shared some of Pat's special treasures as awards.

A mini-symposium was held at the OSEP Project Directors' Conference on the afternoon of July 23, 2008, at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC, to honor Pat's career in technical assistance to improve the lives and opportunities of very young children with special needs and their families.
March 2008
The Journal of Early Intervention, March 2008, Volume 30, Number 2, included Pat's paper, Progress in Providing Services to Young Children with Special Needs and Their Families: An Overview to and Update on the Implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Colleagues and friends Talbot Black, Jim Hamilton, and Dick Zeller penned personal tributes to Pat for this issue.

Pat was remembered by the FPG/NECTAC family with a casual, affectionate tribute in Chapel Hill, NC. Photographs from the event are available to view.
